my new role working in TV ADVERTISING

Angeline Umba, AV Trainee

My name is Angeline Umba, I am a broadcast Journalism graduate who is passionate about everything TV! I joined the team as an AV media trainee in hopes of expanding my knowledge of TV. Due to my background in journalism, media buying and planning was a totally new area for me. Nevertheless, I joined the agency full of determination to learn as much as possible and grow my knowledge in the field.

My first two weeks at ROM were enriched with a series of introductions to not only the varying clients the agency works with, but I was also introduced to the company and its ethos. This allowed me to understand the agency a lot better and how its relationship with its clients is formed based on their values. To name a few, the agency’s openness with their clients, its progressive nature, and overall positive attitude with both clients and colleagues within the agency. These attributes are all reflected within the different campaigns that I have had the pleasure to assist on.

I was almost immediately given practical tasks, which allowed me to pick up on the processes of bringing a campaign to fruition. Delving into the different systems straight away has allowed me to pick up on the different practices very quickly. From learning how to book a campaign to monitoring it, everyday has introduced me to a new and exciting area of AV.
One of the most memorable campaigns I have assisted on so far has been the ‘Cycle Scotland’ campaign for the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government is one of the agencies biggest clients and straight away I was fascinated by all the positive messaging the agency has assisted in delivering across Scotland. Cycling Scotland being one of them. I had the chance to assist in updating the campaign making sure we deliver the best results for our client.

As I look to the future, I look forward to growing even more and assisting the team here at ROM.
